National Veterinary Associates offers an externship for veterinary students, providing hands-on experience in veterinary medicine. Students will work alongside experienced veterinarians to learn critical skills in patient care and may qualify for a stipend to help with travel and living costs.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
