National Veterinary Associates offers an externship for veterinary students to gain meaningful hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. This externship provides a unique opportunity to work closely with veterinarians, assisting in various medical procedures and developing essential skills required in the veterinary field.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique but shares a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are encouraged to participate. Clinical students may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend; details can be viewed here.
