National Veterinary Associates offers a hands-on externship for veterinary students at their Liverpool Village Animal Hospital. This opportunity allows students to gain practical experience in clinical settings, working closely with supervising veterinarians to enhance their skills while receiving a stipend for eligible students. The externship, ranging from two to eight weeks, encourages a supportive learning environment, fostering personal and professional growth in animal care.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here for details on the stipend program. The stipend amount at Liverpool Village Animal Hospital is $1,000.
