An externship at a local NVA hospital provides a unique opportunity for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience while working closely with a dedicated team. Participants will shadow professionals, assist in surgeries, and develop protocols over a flexible duration that typically ranges from two to eight weeks.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, common features include a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Swan Creek Veterinary Clinic in Havre de Grace, MD, has been serving the community for over 17 years. Our fully equipped hospital operates six days a week to ensure optimal patient care while allowing our doctors time for outside interests. Our team includes 15 technicians/customer service representatives and a hospital manager, all dedicated to our patients' and clients' well-being. We are a busy, close-knit team committed to high-quality care.
During your externship, you will have the opportunity to shadow our doctors and technicians, work up cases, assist in surgeries, develop anesthesia protocols, and ask questions to learn about daily practice life. Our days are busy, but we strive to make the experience enjoyable while maintaining high standards of care.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
