National Veterinary Associates invites veterinary students to apply for externships at their hospitals, providing a unique opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience. Externs will work under the supervision of Associate Veterinarians, participating in patient care, treatment planning, and surgeries while enhancing their communication skills. The externship duration is flexible, allowing for a commitment of 2 to 8 weeks, with stipends available for eligible students.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
