National Veterinary Associates offers externships to veterinary students, providing unique hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Externs will engage in various tasks including patient examinations, treatment planning, and surgical assistance while honing communication skills within a medical team.
An externship at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand daily practice operations and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details about the stipend program.
