National Veterinary Associates offers a unique externship for veterinary students, providing hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Students will work alongside experienced veterinarians, developing critical skills in patient care, communication, and diagnostics while gaining exposure to daily operations in a veterinary setting. The externship includes financial support for travel and living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view the list of stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
