National Veterinary Associates offers a unique externship for veterinary students to gain hands-on experience in clinical settings. This opportunity spans two to eight weeks and involves working closely with veterinarians on various medical duties, enhancing both clinical and communication skills.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its own characteristics, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with a veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. For more details, please visit Sun City Animal Hospital's website.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for more information on the stipend program.
