National Veterinary Associates offers a hands-on externship for veterinary students, providing clinical experience in a supportive environment. Interns will gain valuable skills while working closely with experienced veterinarians, enhancing their education and professional growth. Participation is encouraged regardless of class year, with potential stipends available.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
