National Veterinary Associates offers an externship where veterinary students can gain hands-on clinical experience. Students will work alongside veterinarians in a supportive environment, engaging in surgeries, diagnostics, and patient care. This opportunity includes a travel/living expense stipend based on externship duration.
Come spend time with our team at our newly renovated facility. See how we function in day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Currently, our appointment book consists of a variety of routine surgical procedures, more advanced soft tissue/abdominal surgical procedures, and dental prophy which utilize our hand-held dental radiograph equipment. We have also added a Voyant electrosurgery vessel sealer for our surgical procedures. In-house lab equipment includes IDEXX Catalyst, Procyte, and Sedivue. IDEXX imaging service is used for our digital radiographs. Portable ultrasound unit available for in-hospital use. We also offer urgent care-type appointments as well as sick and well visits. Patients mainly consist of canines and felines, but some exotic animals are seen at the discretion of our doctors.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on student requirements and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. We are a 2-doctor practice looking to expand with more talented individuals.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
