The externship at Peotone Animal Hospital offers veterinary students a hands-on experience in clinical practices. Students will learn from experienced veterinarians, engage in patient care, and develop communication skills within a supportive environment. Opportunities for stipends make this externship financially feasible for participating students.
An externship experience at Peotone Animal Hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship durations at Peotone Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
