National Veterinary Associates offers a hands-on externship designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students at their Sandwich location. Externs will work alongside experienced veterinarians, gaining practical skills in patient care, diagnostics, and surgical assistance, within a supportive and professional environment.
An externship at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand daily practice operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. At Sandwich Veterinary Hospital, externships are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE for stipend details and HERE for program information.
