Join the National Veterinary Associates for an externship that offers hands-on clinical experience and an opportunity to learn about daily operations in veterinary practice. Work alongside experienced veterinarians and support staff to enhance your skills in patient care, treatment planning, and communication in the veterinary field. This externship not only supports your clinical education but also fosters your professional development in a nurturing environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common features: a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing/assisting with or performing surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have the opportunity to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Countryside Veterinary Center typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of their class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
