National Veterinary Associates offers an externship for veterinary students at Naperville Animal Hospital, providing hands-on clinical experience with a focus on patient care. Students will collaborate with veterinarians, enhancing their skills through diverse tasks, from diagnostics to surgery, while working in a supportive learning environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Naperville Animal Hospital is an excellent learning environment, offering a range of services including general practice, emergencies, exotics, and orthopedic surgeries. Our walk-in platform is a notable feature that sets us apart.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Housing may be available in some cases.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
