National Veterinary Associates is offering externship experiences for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students at their hospitals. This unique opportunity helps students gain hands-on experience in veterinary practices, enabling them to learn from experienced Associate Veterinarians. Externs will engage in patient care, diagnostics, and contribute to treatment plans in a supportive environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. Externs will also have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externships at Hillsboro Animal Hospital last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are available for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for additional details on the stipend program.
