Join a leading veterinary practice for an externship that offers hands-on experience in clinical medicine. This program is designed for veterinary students to gain practical skills while working under the supervision of experienced veterinarians in a collaborative environment. Enjoy supportive mentorship and community engagement in Portage, Michigan.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital has its unique aspects, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Lakeview Animal Hospital's externships are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
