National Veterinary Associates offers an externship experience for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Engage with veterinary professionals in providing exceptional services to animals and their owners, and develop your skills in diagnostic and surgical care. Opportunities for stipend support available depending on the position.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Brightwood Animal Hospital are designed for clinical-year students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
