National Veterinary Associates invites veterinary students to join their externship program at St. Francis Veterinary Clinic in Minnesota. This unique opportunity allows students to gain hands-on clinical experience and explore daily operations in a supportive environment. Participants will work alongside experienced veterinarians while enhancing their skills in patient care and communication. Externship durations vary from two to eight weeks, creating a flexible opportunity to fit schedules.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at St. Francis Veterinary Clinic to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
