Join National Veterinary Associates for an externship that offers veterinary students a unique hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Work closely with seasoned Associate Veterinarians to enhance your clinical skills, engage in practice operations, and gain exposure to patient management in a real veterinary setting.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Avon Lake Animal Clinic typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view the stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
