National Veterinary Associates offers externship opportunities for veterinary students to gain clinical experience in a supportive environment. Externs will work closely with veterinarians, enhancing skills in patient management and treatment planning while receiving mentorship and guidance in a real-world setting.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at Valley Animal Hospital & Pet Resort typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
