A leading global pet care organization seeks veterinary students for an externship at NVA hospitals. This opportunity offers hands-on clinical experience and close mentorship from Associate Veterinarians. Externs will enhance their skills in patient care, diagnostics, and communication while enjoying a supportive learning environment.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. View stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
