A leading veterinary organization offers externship positions for final-year veterinary students. This program provides hands-on experience in clinical operations, enhancing skills through direct supervision and practical challenges. Students will learn in a supportive environment dedicated to exceptional animal care, with potential stipends for living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Our hospital is located in a growing rural community where clients are like family.
Students will work closely with a supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at New Melle Animal Hospital are available to students in their final clinical year of veterinary school.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
