National Veterinary Associates is offering externship positions for veterinary students at their hospitals, providing hands-on clinical experience and mentorship. Students may engage in diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical assistance while developing their communication skills. The externships last between two to eight weeks and often include a stipend for living or travel expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. Additionally, externs will have the opportunity to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and here for more details on the stipend program.
