Join a leading global pet care organization as an extern at National Veterinary Associates. This unique opportunity offers veterinary students hands-on clinical experience while working with different veterinary teams. Externs will develop essential skills in patient care, diagnostics, and surgical assistance, all while being supported by experienced professionals.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with a supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. McCauley Animal Clinic offers externships to 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
