Responsibilities

Classification Minimum Requirements
Associates degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Job Description:
Oversees all operations of the UF Small Animal Hospital Blood Bank, including canine/feline donor programs, component processing, inventory control, and financial tracking. Provides technical support on blood products and transfusion medicine to clinicians and nursing staff, and instructs veterinary students, interns, residents, and new faculty on blood-banking and transfusion protocols. Manages blood bank technicians, supports their development, and handles administrative duties such as payroll scheduling. Maintains a professional, organized, and efficient hospital environment, exercising advanced clinical judgment and strong communication skills.

Preferred

• 1. Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program
• 2. Proficiency in phlebotomy skills
• 3. Proficiency in IV catheter placements
• 4. Knowledge of animal care and nursing, especially critical care.
• 5. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology.
• 6. Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications.
• 7. Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations.
• 8. Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities.

Health Assessment Required: Yes; Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time.
