Job Description
The AAHA accredited University of Florida Small Animal Hospital is recruiting for a Hospital Veterinary Assistant. The veterinary assistant works with veterinarians and technicians to provide support for patient care and administrative duties in the Small Animal Hospital. This position works under immediate supervision from a manager as well as supportive oversight from veterinarians and technicians, providing basic patient care and administrative support as directed.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians to provide support for patient care and administrative duties.
- Work under immediate supervision from a manager and supportive oversight from veterinarians and technicians.
- Provide basic patient care and administrative support as directed.
- Interact one‑on‑one with clients, patients, and hospital staff, developing friendly, professional relationships and maintaining a positive attitude during all interactions.
- Maintain the overall cleanliness of the hospital, support client service representatives with cleaning needs, retrieve food orders, stock supplies and food, and manage laundry services throughout the Small Animal Hospital.
- Demonstrate strong communication, public relations, and problem‑solving skills; use active listening and confidence in handling customer interactions; project a professional image and possess good interpersonal skills.
- Be outgoing, enthusiastic, and a team player.
- Work at least one weekend day and may be required to work holidays.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills, initiative to solve problems, active listening abilities, confidence in handling customer interactions, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team.
Compensation and Benefits
Expected Salary: $15.00/hr
This CARE position offers limited benefits, including health insurance and paid time off. When appropriate certifications are achieved, promotional opportunities to a level II title may be available, and the position may become eligible for transition into a TEAMS (staff) salary plan.
