Job summary

Petco in Houston is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to deliver compassionate, high‑quality care in our Vetco Total Care hospital. You will greet clients and patients, record weights and vital signs, and assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.

At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice or related animal care experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Compassionate, professional demeanor under stress.
Telephone and computer skills.
Team player willing to learn and adapt.

Responsibilities

Greet clients, record vitals, and enter visits in EMR.
Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia.
Restrain patients, collect samples, dispense medications per veterinarian.
Schedule appointments and educate clients; update records.
Prepare patients for procedures and assist with anesthesia and recovery.
Deliver in-hospital treatments and manage fluids; feed/water patients.
Assist in training new staff and share knowledge.
Keep hospital clean and maintain equipment.
