Petco is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide high-quality medical care for Vetco Total Care hospital patients and outstanding customer service to owners. You will be part of a collaborative team focused on anesthesia, diagnostics, and compassionate patient care in a busy veterinary hospital.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to hospital protocols, and a dedication to pet welfare, with duties spanning clinical tasks, client communication, and front desk support as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and able to maintain a professional attitude in stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, escort to exam room, record weight and vital signs and EMR.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Handle and dispense medications per veterinarian direction and maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, and update records.
• Prepare patients for surgical/dental procedures and assist during anesthesia and recovery.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, injections, IV fluids, and ensure patient welfare.
• Assist in training new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat and maintained.
