BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is now hiring for an energetic, passionate, and driven Veterinary Assistant to join our Ophthalmology department!!

Schedule: Weekdays, 4x10s

Pay: $22.50 - $32.80 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

  • Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
  • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
  • Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr. Shift Differential

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant, you will be responsible for treatments and diagnostics of stable ophthalmology patients.

Role as an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant:

  • You compassionately, calmly, and gently approach and handle our patients according to safety protocols and our core values.
  • Recognition abnormal heart and lung sounds.
  • Appropriately restrain aggressive canine and feline patients.
  • Able to place peripheral over-the-needle catheter in all peripheral vessels.
  • Set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
  • You understand our hospital estimates and can clearly present and explain them to our clients.
  • You prepare medications and our patients/clients for discharge with concise directions for our clients.
  • Set up for ocular ultrasound and retinal camera.
  • Set up and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which may include:
  • Eyelid tacking
  • Corneal debridement and burr/grid keratotomy
  • Cryoablation
