Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an energetic Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant to support treatments and diagnostics for stable ophthalmology patients. Schedule is Weekdays, 4x10s.

Pay ranges from $22.50 to $32.80 per hour with shift differentials; evening and weekend premiums apply. You will restrain patients, place catheters, set up CRI, operate ocular ultrasound and retinal camera, and assist with eyelid tacking, keratotomy, and cryoablation under supervision.

Qualifications

• Compassionate, calm handling of patients per safety protocols and core values.
• Ability to recognize abnormal heart and lung sounds.
• Restraint of aggressive canine and feline patients.
• Place peripheral IV catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Set up and manage CRIs.
• Explain hospital estimates and discharge instructions to clients.
• Prepare medications and patients for discharge with clear directions.
• Set up ocular ultrasound and retinal camera.
• Assist with eyelid tacking, corneal debridement, burr/grid keratotomy, and cryoablation.

Schedule

Weekdays, 4x10s

Pay

$22.50 - $32.80 per hour plus competitive shift differentials. Pay band depends on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Shift Differential Pay

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant, you will be responsible for treatments and diagnostics of stable ophthalmology patients.

Role as an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant

• You compassionately, calmly, and gently approach and handle patients according to safety protocols and our core values.
• Recognition of abnormal heart and lung sounds.
• Appropriately restrain aggressive canine and feline patients.
• Able to place peripheral over-the-needle catheter in all peripheral vessels.
• Set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
• You understand our hospital estimates and can clearly present and explain them to clients.
• You prepare medications and patients/clients for discharge with concise directions.
• Set up ocular ultrasound and retinal camera.
• Set up and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as:
  • Eyelid tacking
  • Corneal debridement and burr/grid keratotomy
  • Cryoablation
