Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an exceptional Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to diagnose and treat eye diseases in companion animals. You will share responsibility for high‑quality care in a setting that blends medicine and surgery.

You will assist with a range of procedures from routine examinations to advanced surgeries, including anesthesia support and client education, contributing to a compassionate, team‑oriented practice.

Qualifications

  • Experience in veterinary ophthalmology is preferred.
  • Ability to assist in ophthalmology procedures and surgeries.
  • Excellent client education and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests and assist with detailed ocular exams.
  • Assist with advanced diagnostic testing and surgical cases.
  • Set up and assist with procedures and surgeries ranging from outpatient to complex operations.
  • Assist with eyelid surgeries, cherry eye, corneal grafts, cataract and retinal procedures.
  • Place IV catheters, manage fluids and monitor anesthesia as needed.
  • Help educate clients about their pet's ocular disease and care.

Job Description

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.

Responsibilities
  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam.
  • Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.).
  • Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries.
  • Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses).
  • Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery.
  • For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various routes, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advanced skills including continuous rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.).
  • Anesthesia training is available with help from our anesthesia specialist.
  • Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
  • Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet's ocular disease and care.
