Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is hiring for a detail-oriented Licensed Veterinary Technician to come work alongside our new board-certified Ophthalmologist.

This role offers the opportunity to develop specialized technical skills through hands‑on involvement in ophthalmic diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and post‑operative patient care. Ophthalmology is a highly rewarding specialty where technicians play a direct role in restoring comfort, preserving vision, and improving quality of life for patients.

Sign‑on bonus up to $20,000 based on experience.

Pay: $30.00 - $51.00 / hour.

Pay is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Ophthalmology Technician Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
• Set‑up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
• Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
• Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
• For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advanced skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
• Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
• Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care
