BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. The role includes assisting with anesthesia during procedures and helping organize specialized ophthalmic equipment.

You will participate in both outpatient procedures and surgeries ranging from basic to complex, with client education on ocular health and disease as a key duty. A strong passion for veterinary medicine and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in veterinary ophthalmology preferred.
• Ability to assist with anesthesia and monitoring during procedures.
• Comfort with handling companion animals during examinations.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests and assist with detailed ocular exams.

• Assist with eyelid, cherry eye, corneal graft, cataract, retinal and glaucoma surgeries.

• Educate clients on ocular disease and care; maintain ophthalmic equipment.

Job Description

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam.
• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.).
• Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries.
• Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses).
• Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery.
• For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various routes, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advanced skills including continuous rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.).
• Anesthesia training is available with help from our anesthesia specialist.
• Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
• Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet's ocular disease and care.
