Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. You will perform basic and advanced ophthalmic tests, set up and assist with a range of outpatient and surgical procedures, and support anesthesia administration during procedures.

You will also be responsible for organizing ophthalmic equipment and educating clients on their pet's ocular condition and care.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a veterinary technician in ophthalmology.
  • Comfort with anesthesia and sedation.
  • Ability to educate clients about ocular disease and care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing).
  • Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function).
  • Set up and assist with procedures and surgeries from outpatient to complex.
  • Assist with outpatient and surgical ophthalmic procedures including eyelid surgeries and cataract surgery.
  • Place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs during sedation or anesthesia; monitor anesthesia.
  • Organize and maintain ophthalmic equipment and supplies.
  • Educate clients on their pet's ocular disease and care.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician for our Ophthalmology department!

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will:
  • Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
  • Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
  • Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
  • Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
  • Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
  • For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
  • Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist
  • Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
  • Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet's ocular disease and care
