Job summary

Shawnee Animal Clinic is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our growing, family-oriented practice. You will assist with patient restraint, triage, bloodwork, radiographs, anesthesia monitoring, and provide nursing care under veterinary supervision.

Qualifications

• We’re seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant with at least 1 year of experience preferred.
• Compassionate, calm, team player who can multi-task and communicate effectively.
• Ability to properly restrain pets.
• Proficiency in sample collection, taking medical histories, processing lab tests and radiographs; anesthesia monitoring is a bonus.
• Self-starter with desire to grow knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Restrain animals as needed for exams and procedures.
• Triage incoming patients and assist with triage decisions.
• Collect and analyze lab samples; monitor patients during imaging and treatment.
• Assist with radiographs and anesthesia management.
• Provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases.
• Communicate treatment plans clearly with clients and team.

Shawnee Animal Clinic is a growing, family-oriented practice with wonderful clients. We currently have eight doctors of veterinary medicine and over sixty support staff between our hospital, grooming facility, and boarding and training facility. Our team is like our family, and we are looking for individuals who are self-starters, have a willingness to learn, and can multi-task in a fast-paced veterinary hospital.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

We’re looking for:

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.

• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus!

Additional Information

Pay Range: $14.00-$15.00 per hour
