Job summary

Quality Veterinary Care in North Reading, MA seeks an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support hospital care, triage, imaging, anesthesia, and client communication. You will help with medications, nursing care, and lab sample processing, while maintaining clinical records and contributing to a collaborative team.

The role requires at least 2 years of veterinary assistant experience, reliable weekend availability, and a commitment to compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of veterinary assistant experience.
  • Punctual and reliable in scheduled shifts.
  • Availability to work some weekend shifts.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Compassionate, calm team player.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency in sample collection, histories, lab tests and radiographs; anesthesia monitoring is a bonus.
  • Self-starter eager to advance knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Restrain animals safely and with low stress.
  • Triage incoming patients and collect/analyze lab samples.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging and support medical/hospital care.
  • Administer medications and assist in surgery.
  • Communicate treatment plans clearly to clients.
  • Prepare and assist with surgical procedures; manage anesthesia.
  • Maintain medical records and ensure accurate documentation.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

  • An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 2-years experience required

Additional Information

Pay Range: $15 - $20/hr depending on level of experience
