Job summary

Shawnee Animal Clinic in Massachusetts is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support nursing care, triage, sample collection, imaging, and anesthesia monitoring. You’ll work on medical and hospitalized cases with varying stability and communicate treatment plans to clients.

We offer comprehensive benefits and continuing education opportunities; full-time with rotating half-day Saturdays; background check may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year veterinary assistant experience preferred.
• Compassionate, calm, team player, multitasker and strong communicator.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficiency in sample collection, medical histories, lab tests and radiographs; anesthesia monitoring a bonus.
• Self-starter with desire to advance knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Restrain and handle animals safely and humanely.
• Triage incoming patients and assist with nursing care.
• Collect and analyze lab samples; perform radiographs as needed.
• Assist in surgical preparation and anesthesia management.
• Communicate treatment plans clearly with clients.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for:

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.
