Job summary

America Works of Illinois is recruiting a Veterans Program Manager in Chicago, IL to supervise the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. You will manage case load, oversee budget and partnerships, and guide veterans toward employment and housing stability.

The role emphasizes leadership, experience with veterans, and strong communication. On-site work schedule is Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm, with a $70,000 annual salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or higher; advanced studies a plus.
• 1–3 years of case management experience in a related field.
• Experience with veterans or individuals experiencing homelessness preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and judgment skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide program oversight including managing the program budget, staff, and partnerships with community organizations and government agencies.
• Prepare accurate reports on program enrollment and placement numbers during audits.
• Conduct intake, orientation, eligibility screening, and assessments with veterans experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
• Oversee barrier removal before and after job placement, ensuring the participant has resources and support to obtain and retain employment (housing, clothing, healthcare, childcare, etc.).
• Develop individualized plans to help veterans become job-ready, including resume preparation, mock interviewing, and barrier removal.
• Regularly meet with participants in-person or over phone/video to ensure progress toward goals.
• Maintain detailed case notes, update attendance logs, submit weekly reports, and other administrative tasks.
• Refer clients to vocational trainings, technical skills classes, and other certification programs.
• Meet weekly, quarterly, and annual enrollment and job placement numbers.
• Model professionalism and inclusiveness, cultivate a safe environment for career development, and motivate clients to find full-time employment.
