Job summary

USVETS Houston is seeking a Veteran Service Assistant to support daily residential services at the Houston site. You will assist in shelter operations, maintain a sober and therapeutic environment, and coordinate with staff to ensure uninterrupted services for veterans.

Responsibilities include bed checks, safety rounds, client mail handling, incident reporting, and helping with room inspections and cleaning. A valid driver’s license and community-focused approach are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience with programs and homeless populations.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with residential staff.
• Must promote client-centered philosophy and sobriety.
• Energetic, mission-driven and flexible.
• Valid driver's license required.
• If driving company vehicles, meet insurance requirements and driver training.

Responsibilities

• Assists in delivering basic services (shelter, food, hygiene) to veterans.
• Maintains a harmonious atmosphere and therapeutic community environment.
• Handles client mail and move-in/move-out logistics.
• De-escalates verbal/physical altercations and files incident reports.
• Performs bed checks, inspections, and safety rounds.
• Assists with supply inventory and storage.
• Supports maintenance and readiness for inspections.
• Assists in safety and emergency procedures implementation.
• Facilitates routine daily living activities for clients.
• Performs routine cleaning of client rooms and common areas.
