Job summary

U.S.VETS is seeking a Veteran Service Assistant to support daily residential services for veterans at the Houston site. You will help deliver shelter, food, hygiene, and maintain a safe, sober environment with staff collaboration.

Responsibilities include coordinating client mail, assisting move-ins/outs, conducting safety rounds, and documenting incidents and logs. Requires HS diploma, 1+ year work with homeless populations, strong communication, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience with programs and homeless populations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with residential staff.
• Must promote client-centered and sober environment.
• Energetic, dedicated and flexible.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Valid driver's license; if driving, must meet company insurance requirements and complete training.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering basic services (shelter, food, hygiene) to veterans at the facility.
• Maintain a harmonious atmosphere by communicating with clinical staff and supporting a therapeutic community.
• Assist in the delivery/handling of client mail.
• Assist with move-in/move-out from the facility.
• Prevent or de-escalate verbal/physical altercations and file incident reports as needed.
• Address client issues timely to ensure uninterrupted services.
• Conduct safety rounds around internal and external locations.
• Convey needs to maintain supply inventory and proper storage.
• Assist with facility upkeep and readiness for inspections.
• Assist in implementing toxicology testing to promote a sober environment.
• Implement safety and emergency procedures.
• Assist in bed checks and room inspections for a clean, safe environment.
• Document bed checks, incidents, and client logs; perform routine daily living activities.
• Adhere to site work order procedures and assist with weekly cleaning.
