Job summary

U.S. VETS in Long Beach, CA is seeking an Employment Specialist to help veterans prepare for, secure, and maintain employment. You will build employer relationships, coach job seekers, and support clients toward economic stability and independence.

The role emphasizes individualized employment plans, resume development, workshops, and accurate record-keeping within a nonprofit setting that serves veterans and homeless individuals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Marketing, Social Services, or related field.
• Two years of experience may substitute for the degree.
• Minimum one year of job development experience, preferably in a government-funded or staffing environment.
• Experience working with homeless individuals or veterans preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet research.

Responsibilities

• Meet with clients each week to support job search activities.
• Assist clients with identifying work history, skills, and employment interests.
• Develop individualized Employment Development Plans with goals.
• Help clients create resumes, cover letters, and master applications.
• Identify job opportunities and build relationships with employers.
• Contact new employers weekly to expand leads and partnerships.
• Facilitate employment-related workshops (resume writing, mock interviews).
• Meet wage and placement goals set by the Workforce Development Coordinator.
• Document client progress and maintain workforce records.
