Job summary

Hornblower Group operates a fleet of small passenger vessels in the New York and New Jersey waters, seeking a Master in Navigational Command with USCG Inland Masters credentials. The role emphasizes safe navigation, crew leadership, and guest service on waterfront routes.

Responsibilities include supervising deckhands, maintaining logs, leading safety drills, and ensuring compliance with all Coast Guard regulations while delivering a high-quality passenger experience.

Qualifications

• U.S. Coast Guard Inland Masters (50 ton / six+ passengers) or equivalent.
• TWIC Card required.
• Current New York or New Jersey driver's license with clean record.
• Two years of boat handling experience preferred.
• Customer service experience is helpful.
• Knowledge of foreign language is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Operate the vessel with standard watch-standing and seamanship procedures.
• Assign crew tasks appropriate to classification.
• Lead safety meetings and ensure safe vessel operation.
• Supervise deckhands in safety, security and training.
• Maintain vessel operation logs and crew records.
• Conduct routine drills per USCG regulations.
• Inspect vessel areas for hazards and investigate incidents.
• Ensure proper uniform and guest service standards.
• Oversee cash handling aboard the vessel.
• Comply with Coast Guard rules and navigational regulations.
