Job summary

Training Resources Limited seeks a Master on navigational command for USCG-inspected small passenger vessels operating between the New York and New Jersey waterfronts. You will ensure safety of crew and passengers, manage watch routines, and uphold environmental respect.

You will supervise deckhands and enforce regulations, while maintaining logs and handling guest inquiries. The role requires an Inland Masters license (50 ton or more passengers), a TWIC card, and a valid NY/NJ driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • USCG Inland Masters (50 ton / six or more passengers) or equivalent.
  • TWIC Card.
  • Possess and maintain a current New York or New Jersey Driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Two years of boat handling experience preferred but not required.
  • Customer service experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of foreign language is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the vessel with due regard for standards of watch standing and seamanship.
  • Assign crew work appropriate for their classification.
  • Conduct safety meetings per Liberty Landing Ferry policy for safe operation.
  • Counsel and discipline crew regarding performance issues.
  • Directly supervise deckhands in safety, security, and training.
  • Discipline crew members who fail to adhere to policy or USCG regulations.
  • Maintain vessel operations and logs, personnel reports, and ship records.
  • Routinely conduct drills per US Coast Guard regulations.
  • Inspect vessel areas for unsafe conditions and conduct accident investigations.
  • Observe and evaluate crew performance under command.
  • Wear Liberty Landing Ferry uniform when guests are present.
  • Oversee cash handling aboard the vessel.
  • Follow all USCG regulations and Navigational Rules of the Road.
  • Assist guests with service and schedule inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure deck and engine room preventative maintenance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
