Job Summary
The Facilities Operations Department invites applications for the position of Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Technician. This is a full time, 12 month, 40 hours per (Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm) Service employee position reporting to the Logistics and Mobile Technologies Manager.
The incumbent will have general responsibility for the maintenance and repair of College vehicles and equipment assigned to the College Fleet, Grounds and Service Pools.

The incumbent will have general responsibility for the maintenance and repair of College vehicles and equipment assigned to the College Fleet, Grounds and Service Pools.
Essential Job Functions
• Maintain, service and repair the power plants for all campus stand-by and emergency generators. This includes performing preventative maintenance, checking and changing fuel, oil, antifreeze and batteries.
• Perform routine maintenance, such as oil changes, lubrication, tire rotation and replacement and general interior and exterior cleaning, seasonal equipment changeovers, welding and the overhaul of horticultural equipment, etc., for college owned vehicles and equipment. Work with the Logistics Manager to maintain a schedule for the accomplishment of these tasks. Submit updated and complete maintenance and repair records for all vehicles through work orders.
• Operate the Fuel Master computer management system, keeping up to date with its enhancements; be prepared to learn and operate whatever computer management systems are implemented by the college; perform refueling function and utilize the Fuel Master record keeping to record fuel consumption.
• Perform routine inspections, mechanical and body repairs, such as brake jobs, tune-ups, minor welding and fabricating, small motor repair, including the maintenance, service and repair of mid-sized diesel motors, and minor body work as assigned; troubleshoot and repair equipment electrical systems.
• Inform supervisor of necessary parts and supplies for shop area. Assist with equipment and materials inventory; prepare orders for parts and supplies; pick up parts and supplies, as necessary.
• Coordinate the safe and secure storage of equipment and materials.
• Transport college vehicles to dealers for repairs, inspections and services as needed.
• Communicate regularly with all departments to help coordinate scheduled events and maintenance of vehicles.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety standards for the mechanic’s area and the service bay in accordance with OSHA standards and College Policy.
• Follow all college policies, local ordinances, OSHA and other applicable state and local safety policies and standards.
• Carry college-provided two way radio for communication at all times to provide coverage for immediate issues that may arise on campus as well as for normal communication of work related duties.
• Complete and turn in work orders as noted in the work order procedure.
Marginal Job Functions
• Assist Service Pool, Head Trucker and Grounds employees as directed by manager.
• Assist with Snow Removal.
• Make off-campus trips as requested.
• Work to diagnose issues and make timely repairs of all college owned vehicles and equipment, as necessary.
• Maintain work area in a clean and neat manner.
• Maintain all college vehicles and equipment that are assigned to your responsibility in a clean and neat manner, including standard work trucks/vans, two-stroke equipment, outdoor power equipment (riding mowers, utility vehicles, excavators, loaders, tractors).
• Safeguard all college property which is under your responsibility.
• Operate all college property in a safe manner.
• Safely move objects with a powered/manual industrial truck, forklift or other material handling equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Applicant’s work experience must demonstrate the following capabilities: reading and comprehending safety ( MSDS ) and technical directives and manifests; work experience demonstrating the ability to get along well with co-workers, as well as with a diverse community; willingness to participate in training classes and seminars to improve job skills, as requested and provided (including OSHA and OC Safety); High School diploma or equivalent; Auto Mechanic Certification or minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience as a general automotive mechanic or horticultural equipment mechanic, including experience with diesel engines. Applicants must also possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and be able to meet the College’s insurability standards. Candidate must be able to safely lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.); must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding; exert moderate and occasionally considerable physical effort, including frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling and stooping. Candidate must have basic familiarity with the usage of computers, computer software, and internet browsing ability. Candidate must be able to operate a drivable forklift and pass a forklift proficiency test within 29 working days from start date. Candidate must have favorable references, including a good attendance record.
Any offer made to an external candidate is contingent upon a pre-employment physical, drug test and completion of a satisfactory comprehensive background check.
External candidates are subject to a physical/fit-for-duty examination to ensure the physical demands of the job can be met.
All candidates will be given a general reading and comprehension test and equipment service exam.
This Pay Grade 8 Service Employee position will be filled at the base rate of $31.50, or at the appropriate transfer rate for internal candidates. A generous benefits package is included.
