Job Summary
The Grounds Department in Facilities Operations invites applications for the position of Grounds Worker II. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, 12-month Service Employee position reporting to the Grounds Services Manager. The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
Performs full range of Grounds Worker II daily duties, horticulture work, preventative maintenance tasks. Turf and landscape management around campus buildings. A list of typical duties for this position includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Marginal Job Functions
Set up equipment for special events.
Monitor/remove exterior art installations, as directed.
Maintain work area in a clean and neat manner.
Maintain all college vehicles/Equipment that are assigned to your responsibility in a clean and neat manner, cleaning equipment after each use.
Safeguard all college property which is under your responsibility.
Operate all college property in a safe manner.
Other duties as assigned.
Keep Grounds Manager up-to-date on projects via verbal or written communication.
Memorandum of Understanding MOU – Grounds worker II transition to Grounds Specialist – newly hired individuals will begin 2 yr apprenticeship to transition to a Grounds Specialist (pay grade 6). To advance to a Grounds Specialist (pay grade 6) the individual must meet the criteria below. If an individual is hired with previous experience/education, the College may place a new hire at the second step of the apprenticeship program Grounds worker III (pay grade 4). The College will notify the Union in such instances. – Criteria will be given at Interview.
Required Qualifications
Two years of experience in grounds related work, or in an appropriately related area; possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet the College’s insurability standards. Demonstrated ability to operate a broad range of medium sized trucks, tractors, and implements related to grounds maintenance; the ability to read and follow written instructions; willingness to participate in training classes and seminars to improve job skills; experience demonstrating the ability to do the following: lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; work outside in extreme weather conditions; carry out duties of moderate to occasional considerable physical exertion for extended periods; including frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling and stooping; work effectively under time pressure when preparing facilities for events. Must have basic familiarity with the usage of computers, computer software, and internet browsing ability. Must work and communicate in a cooperative and professional manner in a diverse campus environment with ethnic and cultural diversity. Candidate to have favorable references, including a good attendance record.

Candidates are subject to a physical examination to ensure the physical demands of the job can be met. All Candidates will be given a general reading and comprehension test.
This Pay Grade 3 Service Employee position is to be filled at a base rate of $23.12 per hour, or at the appropriate transfer rate for internal candidates. A generous benefits package is included.
