Job summary

Briarcliff Manor School District seeks a Varsity Track and Field Assistant Coach for the 26-27 school year. The role involves organizing and supervising the athletic program, coaching athletes, and implementing policies under the athletic director's guidance.

The assistant coach will help develop training plans, mentor student athletes, ensure compliance with regulations, and collaborate with staff to promote sportsmanship and academic progress of athletes.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and examine new theories and procedures.
• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies and is responsible for their implementation by the staff.
• Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements and interprets them for staff.
• Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers requests through proper channels.
• Established the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff; designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings.
• Trains and informs staff and encourages professional growth by attending clinics.
• Delegates duties, supervises implementation and evaluates assistants at season end.
• Maintains discipline, handles grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.
• Assists in scheduling, transportation and requirements for tournaments and events.
• Provides documentation for state and system requirements concerning examinations, consent and eligibility.
• Advises the athletic director and recommends policy changes.
• Serves as a mentor to athletes to promote character development and trustworthiness.
• Ensures student athletes’ grades and conduct are monitored.
• Provides training rules and unique sport regulations to athletes.
• Initiates injury policies, medical attention and emergency procedures.
• Completes paperwork on injuries and submits to athletic office within 24 hours.
• Directs student managers and assistants, and evaluates staff effectiveness.
• Determines discipline and contacts parents if a student is ineligible.
• Assists athletes in college or advanced education selection.
• Participates in budgeting and equipment guidelines for the next season.
• Maintains inventory and ensures proper use of equipment.
• Promotes sport within the school and to external audiences.
