Job summary

Blue & Gold Fleet is hiring a Vessel Engineer to maintain the safe, reliable, and operational condition of company vessels under U.S. Coast Guard regulations. The role requires coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnosing failures, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Key duties include planning maintenance, ordering parts, documenting work, and collaborating with captains, operations, and vendors to minimize downtime while upholding exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a marine engineer within the small passenger vessel industry or equivalent field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience maintaining diesel engines, marine electrical systems, hydraulics, pumps, propulsion equipment, and auxiliary machinery is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, reduction gears, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, sanitary, propulsion, steering, and auxiliary systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, identify root causes, and perform safe, effective, and lasting repairs.
  • Plan maintenance projects, order materials and replacement parts, and coordinate repairs to minimize vessel downtime.
  • Complete vessel condition surveys, inspections, maintenance records, and work documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas aboard vessels, within company facilities, and in maintenance shops.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow engineers, captains, operations personnel, vendors, and management to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and operational efficiency.
  • Respond to scheduled and emergency maintenance needs as required to support fleet operations.
  • Promote and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.
