Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a School Certifying Official to ensure timely VA education benefit certifications and maintain compliance across programs. The role involves processing certifications, monitoring enrollment changes, and resolving issues with VA representatives.

Strong attention to detail and deadline-driven work are essential. Collaborating with campus partners and Veteran Services, you will support student engagement and retention for military-connected students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
• Two (2) years of related experience required; work experience may substitute for the education requirement.
• Experience with VA education benefits or student information systems is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Certifies enrollments and reports status changes in Enrollment Manager.
• Counsels students on eligibility for VA education benefits.
• Supports student-centered programs, events, and initiatives.
• Identifies and resolves veteran- and dependent-specific issues.
• Serves as primary point of contact for VA education benefits questions.
• Maintains accurate and compliant VA student records.
• Monitors academic progress, GPA, enrollment, and financial aid to prevent overpayments.
• Verifies and reconciles documentation between SIS and Enrollment Manager.
• Prepares compliance reports and verifies GI Bill payments prior to posting.
• Counsels students, parents, dependents, and Guard/Reserve partners on eligibility and programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
