Job summary

Cengage Group, a global edtech company, is seeking a UX Design Director to shape the future of educational technology. You will lead a team of designers, set design strategy, and mentor talent to deliver modern, intuitive experiences grounded in user research and data.

You will partner with product, engineering, and marketing, define focus areas, evolve UX standards, and push the boundaries with emerging technologies including AI to improve learner and educator experiences across our platforms.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of people management experience leading 10+ designers.
• Deep expertise in UX/UI design, human-centered design, and modern product design processes.
• Outstanding leadership and mentoring track record.
• Excellent collaboration and communication; ability to influence partnerships.
• Portfolio required to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team to create modern, data-informed experiences grounded in customer insights.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to align priorities and embed UX principles.
• Create intuitive design patterns from concept to polished solutions.
• Set UX standards and guidelines across products.
• Continuously evaluate user experience using data and insights to drive improvements.
• Stay ahead of design trends, AI, and new tools to advance practice.
• Use design as competitive advantage by benchmarking leading products.
• Develop talent through coaching and mentoring to grow leadership and impact.
