Job summary

The City of Temple is actively seeking a Utility Technician to install, repair, and maintain water and wastewater systems under the Crew Leader’s supervision. You will operate related equipment and ensure compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Key duties include repairing lines, installing mains and meters, assisting in excavation, locating lines per Texas One Call, and loading/hauling materials with dump trucks. A high school diploma and relevant licenses are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement required upon hire/advancement.
• TCEQ Licenses: D Water and Collection I are required/licensed.

Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair.
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including mains, services, meters, valves, hydrants, and other components.
• Assists in excavation; operates equipment to break rock/asphalt; prepares and clears sites for construction.

Summary

Utility Technician, under the general supervision of the Crew Leader, installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater infrastructure, operating related equipment and ensuring compliance with safety and traffic control standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Repairs water and wastewater lines; cleans and inspects pipes; installs repair parts and evaluates effectiveness of repair
• Installs water and wastewater infrastructure including, but not limited to, mains, services, and laterals; taps and meters; valves; manholes; air relief valves; fire hydrants; cleanouts, etc.
• Assists in excavation; operates air hammer to break rock and asphalt; uses pick and shovel to remove dirt and rock from excavations; uses probe to locate pipes
• Cleans wastewater lines; uses hand and / or machine rods to unclog or clean mains & laterals
• Performs line locates of water and wastewater infrastructure in accordance with Texas One Call laws
• Cleans & maintains tools and equipment
• Drives various trucks, primarily dump trucks, to haul material related to the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure
• Loads, unloads, and operates dump trucks and other heavy equipment
• Installs traffic control in strict accordance with state and federal manuals of traffic control devices
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
